Newborn Photography Session, Horsham – Horsham Newborn Photographer

Sussex newborn photographer

When I started out as a newborn photographer I was challenged with how to reconcile my minimalist tendencies with the posed and prop-heavy approach that has become synonymous with traditional newborn photography.

Then I realised that I didn’t have to. It was possible to start with a completely blank canvas and then leave it as precisely that. The only adornment that is needed, is the baby itself.

No matter how old a firstborn child is, they’ll have some adjusting to do when a brother or a sister comes on the scene. As a Horsham newborn photographer, I love the opportunity to incorporate siblings into newborn shoots, as I did during this recent session. Capturing this interaction is one of my favourite things to do but I’m sensitive to the fact that it can be quite an unsettling time for them.

I like to take the opportunity to make them feel special, for them to dress up and have a few photos on their own. There’s no pressure for them to cuddle or interact with their new brother or sister. We take things at their pace and, when they’re ready, I’ll be there to simply capture the moment.

Just a little boy, in a big world

Babies grow so fast and one day, in the not too distant future, you’ll look back and wonder how they could have ever been so small. Luckily, George’s mum has the memory of this time perfectly preserved, thanks to our recent newborn photography session in Horsham, Sussex.

Carried out in the first two weeks after birth, my newborn photography sessions are gentle, relaxed and unhurried. I specialise in a more baby-led style of newborn photography – simple, natural and unposed. Removing the posing also removes the pressure for babies to be sleeping, which is just as well as George didn’t want to miss a minute of his photoshoot and stayed wide awake throughout.

Leon’s Sitter Session – Baby Photography Sussex

The first year of your baby’s life is a remarkable time and they change all too quickly. Booking baby photography sessions at key times throughout their first year allows us to capture some of these special moments, such as sitting unaided. Ideal for babies approximately 6-10 months old or when they can sit confidently but are not yet on the move, a sitter session will capture a baby’s emerging personality.

Babies are very interactive at this age; smiling easily, giggling and making faces. Just like Leon, who came in for his sitter session this week. Over the last year, I’ve had the pleasure of photographing Leon as a bump, baby … and now boy.
